We serve delicious and healthy vegetarian breakfasts at Casa da Cabaza. They are prepared using fresh, organic and locally-sourced ingredients. When in season, some of the produce will come straight from our own vegetable garden and fruit orchard. Otherwise we buy locally. We can accommodate most dietary requirements when notified in advance.

Our breakfasts are a great start to the day with cereals, yoghurts, dairy & non-dairy milks, fresh bread, Galician cheese, jams, honey, fresh fruit, juices, a variety of specialty teas and coffee. Depending on availability of ingredients, we may be able to offer a Mediterranean mezze style breakfast that includes hummus, tzatziki, halloumi and feta cheeses and olives along with a selection of fresh, crunchy vegetables.

























During the evenings we can offer tasty tapas, or pinchos as they are called in Galicia, and a small selection of elegant Ribeira Sacra wines produced by Adega Alguiera, and chilled Galician beer to enjoy. For groups of 4 persons or more, we can also offer a selection of vegetarian dishes. Please note that we require at least 2 days notice if you are interested in eating here.


Staying at Casa da Cabaza means being close to nature and the outdoors in a tranquil and peaceful environment. The house lies by a mostly abandoned hamlet on the shore of a lake in southern Lugo province. You will wake to a chorus of birdsong and perhaps the tinkling of cow bells in the distance. There are plenty of places to relax in the garden with a refreshing drink and a good book, and a few hammocks for day-dreaming. On clear nights you can watch the moon slowly rise. As the area is scarcely populated there is little light pollution. Watching stars on clear night is really magical!

Guest Rooms

We offer five en-suite guest rooms. Each is unique with original art works on the walls. The comfortable rooms retain the traditional features of a Galician farmhouse with thick stone walls, chestnut beam ceilings and wooden or stone floors. There is central heating throughout for the cooler months. The rooms open onto a balcony-corridor running along the upper level with views over the countryside and the lake.

The guest rooms are set apart in their own building, separated from the lounge and our own accommodation by a central courtyard covered by a lush wisteria vine.

Lounge and breakfast room

This is a welcoming place where you can enjoy breakfast in the morning and refreshments during the evening. The striking chestnut tables and buffet bar were handmade for us by talented local craftsman (and archer!) Lee Ramsdale. The lounge offers some board games, along with various books and magazines for guests to enjoy.

There is also seating on the two garden terraces with views of the lake and the countryside.

The garden & land

We have 2.5 acres of land, ringed by oak trees and right on the shore of the lake. It accommodates a vegetable garden, and two orchards with a variety of fruit and nut trees, along with paddocks and areas for the horses and chickens. We are nature and animal lovers and try to manage the land and the gardens organically and in accordance with permaculture principles. Our work on the land is continually evolving and taking shape. It is exciting to be able to connect, learn and produce in a healthy and holistic manner.
