A lovely stay at an old jail!
Pros: La Cárcel is in a small quiet village towards the end of a beautiful valley. It's very rustic, and charming, with beautiful bedrooms above the bar/restaurant area. Outside has numerous areas to sit, and we spent a whole afternoon relaxing in the sun. We also walked beyond the next village Montrondo to see the waterfall, and stopped in the welcoming village pub on our way back. We could have stayed much longer than our short 2 days as it was so comfortable and welcoming. The bed was the best I've ever slept in, and the bathroom was lovely and quaint. Inés catered superbly for us, and the other gentleman who served us was very helpful with ideas for walks etc.
Cons: Squeaky floorboards and quite thin walls.

Lovely rooms, views and hospitality and great value.
Pros: Housed in the former village prison, this small, family-run hotel has been refurbished by the local authority to bring visitors to the area. It has been beautifully restored and has a lovely garden terrace with views across the fields. Nuria and her team are running it with warmth and enthusiasm. Great value for money. A business to support. Would stay again.
Cons: Nothing significant. Maybe vegetarian cooking isn’t their strongest, but the cooking is local, authentic, unfussy and home made. Breakfast jams were delicious.
